“Etchmiadzin” Journal of Religious and Armenological Studies

Publishing is one of the priorities of activity of the Holy See of Etchmiadzin. Particular attention is paid to periodicals. The official organ of the Holy See, the Journal of Religious and Armenological Studies "Echmiadzin" is the direct successor to the traditions of the journal "Ararat"(1868-1919), which was published until the establishment of Soviet power in Armenia. the monthly periodical "Echmiadzin" was founded in 1944 at the instigation of the Catholicos of All Armenians George 6th Chorekchyan (1945-1954). In 1956, Catholicos Vazgen the 1st (1955-1994) allocated a separate office to the journal, formed an editorial board, and in order to ensure continuous and unhindered printing, on October 15, 1961, he restored and completely renovated the technical terms of printing house of the Holy See, founded by Catholicos Simeon Yerevantsi in 1771.

Since 2018, by the initiative of Catholicos Garegin, the 2nd works of the journal "Echmiadzin" are being coordinated by the publishing department of the Holy See.

Article Acceptance Procedure:

The materials submitted to the editorial board must:

  • correspond to the format and direction of the journal (Theology or Armenology),
  • provide a proper literary and scientific essay,
  • never (in any form) be published,
  • have a structure according to sections and subsections (introduction/entry, main body, conclusion/summary),
  • ensure the presence of some scientific innovation or refer to topical issues,
  • have summaries in Armenian, English and Russian (at least 150 words, not exceeding 300) and a list of literature,
  • authors who do not have a scientific degree must submit a letter of recommendation (from a scientific supervisor or institution) attached to the article. 

 

Computer/technical requirements:

  • The text in Word (.doc, .docx) format,
  • Note: Unicode
  • Font: Sylfaen,
  • Font size: 12 (footnotes and summaries: 10),
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Paper: A4,
  • Margin on all sides: 2 cm.
  • Content length: up to 20 pages (or 36,000 characters at most).
  • Present the pictures, drawings, black-and-white and color photos separately from the article, in case there are many, as consecutive units (figs. 1, 2, 3...). Attach a "List of Pictures" to the pictures with an explanation of each and a link to the source of the picture.
  • Transliterate the author's name and surname, the title of the article,
  • Translate the article's title into English and Russian.

 

Publication Ethics

The editorial board of the theological-Armenological journal "Echmiadzin" is guided by Armenian and international standards for the protection of the copyright of scientific works․

Although the editorial board of the journal makes every effort to comply with scientific ethics and the quality of publications, they cannot be held responsible for copyrights and expressed thoughts/views on published materials (text, photographs, figures, tables, etc.). Responsibility for this rests with the authors of the articles and therefore are welcomed those authors who adhere to the rules of scientific ethics, citing published and unpublished sources of information.

The decision about the publishing of an article is made within 60 days. Only those papers that fully and completely meet the requirements and criteria of the journal and have received a positive review (Reviews) are accepted.

 

Open access

The editorial board of the Religious-Armenological journal "Echmiadzin" is guided by the policy of ensuring unhindered and open access to articles from scientific journals via the Internet. Open access greatly contributes to the dissemination of publications and also increases the recognition of authors. The journal is a peer-reviewed open-access periodical.

 

Reviewing

Reviews are accepted in printed form and certified by signature. The decision to publish an article is made only in case of full compliance with all the requirements of the journal, as well as in the presence of a positive conclusion (review).

Before the publication of the article, the author must get acquainted with the edited version of the article (by personally visiting the editorial office or by reading the pdf version of the article) and gives his consent for printing by filling out the appropriate certificate form.
